THE WESTMORLAND GAZETTE, December 24, 1998 Web Watch - Rachel Garnett keeps you plugged into the internet SEASIDE resort Grange-over-Sands will market its appeal to young and old around the world with an internet Web site. Grange will be promoted not only as a tourist destination but also as a place to live and develop businesses. "We've been a little slow in keeping up with the times," Councillor Peter Jackson told fellow Grange town councillors. "It's got this awful name of being the geriatric centre - I think there's far more to Grange." Internet pages would keep Grange up with the times and attract more young people to the resort. The Web site would also put the town on the global map, explained Councillor Jackson, adding: "People in America click into Grange-over-Sands and say, this looks a good place to go and stay. The opportunities are endless." Grange Town Council will set the Web site up in partnership with South Lakeland District Council. Kendal company The Dedicated Partnership will design the site, which will feature information about the town and its history; where to stay, eat, drink and shop; maps; and travel information. The Dedicated Partnership will sell advertising space, the money from which will pay for managing the site and producing pages. Registering and hosting the domain name www.grange-over-sands.com will cost £150 each year, to be shared between the Councils. Town clerk Dick Whittington said the site was otherwise self-funding. Clubs, societies, schools, Grange locals and the Chamber of Trade could all get involved, he added. Town councillors pledged their support to the initiative.
